As the world talks more and more about the current energy crisis, renewable sources of energy are looking better and better. Non renewable energy sources include burning coal to provide electricity and using gasoline to power our cars.

While we are always improving our efficiency in using these sources of energy, humans have used up the majority of these resources in just a few short decades. One thing is for sure: the worldwide demand for energy is not going away, so we must begin taking a serious look at sources of energy that are renewable. By renewable, we mean that the source of the energy will always be here, ready for us to tap in to.

There are 3 main types of renewable source of energy we’ll discuss here:

Solar Energy Solar: Energy from the sun is the most abundant source of energy available on the planet. In fact, all life on earth is already dependent upon plants absorbing the sun’s energy and expelling oxygen for animals (and us!) to breathe. Advances in solar technology have come a long way, and
you can even use solar energy to power your home. Examples of solar energy working in the home include solar cookers, solar heating systems, solar lighting systems, and solar dryers. The best application is using solar panels to generate electricity for your home, thus eliminating utility costs. Large solar farms are being developed all over the world in hopes of adding to electricity already produced by traditional means.4

Solar energy systems have many advantages apart from being cost-effective and environment-friendly. Once they are set up, they are low maintenance, and can provide years of free energy without much (if any) effort on your part. The low cost of some energy systems also makes for a very quick return on investment.

Hydro energy solutions: The hydro energy, or “water energy” is another excellent renewable energy source. We can convert the constant movement of water into electricity that can be used to power our world. Hydro energy is usually generated on a very large scale, and not in the home. It is estimated that 90 percent of the electrical energy produced by renewable resources is produced solely by hydro power! This is a very real energy source that we are already taking advantage of. Dams are built to help generate electricity by tapping the water power that is constantly flowing.

Some people have raised concern that this method of harnessing energy is disruptive to plants and animals living in the water.

Wind energy solutions: Windmills has been in existence for thousands of years in some form. Originally, they helped to tow boats and pump water up  from wells, a practice still used today. In recent decades, however, wind power has been harnessed to produce electricity. Giant wind farms consisting of massive wind towers are slowly adding renewable energy to the world’s energy supply.

Windmills and wind turbines have only been increasing their usefulness. Wind energy can generate tons of megawatts of electricity, and this source of power is not going anywhere. When used in a home setting, it can help do away with conventional power sources. An excellent renewable source of energy, wind energy is a strong performer as a renewable source of energy.
